How to Start STUDYING HERBALISM

By The Homestead Challenge

Starting herbalism can seem scary, but if you start small, you will be comfortable in no time.

START BY READING

Read books from rusted sources and get inspired. Find what plants are calling your name or think about what you want to make.

GET OUT IN NATURE

Start noticing the plants around you in each season. Typically, a plant that pops up in spring will help with spring ailments (and it's the same for all seasons!).

START WITH CLEANERS

If you want to make simple swaps, make an herbal cleaner! That is much less scary than starting with medicines. You got this!

MOVE TO BATH AND BODY

Once you are feelin' it, move to making bath and body products! Your skin can absorb all of that herbal goodness!

MAKE SOME TEA

Teas are a great first step into ingesting your herbal remedies. Try one herb at a time and steep. Notice how that herb makes you feel? Calm? Hot? Energized? Antsy? Click below to learn the best ways to brew.

MOVE FORWARD

Keep on learning and moving forward. Herbs work differently for everyone (they are not a 1-1 swap for modern meds!). Once you find one you love, keep working with it and become an expert on that plant, then move forward.
