DIY Lilac Infused Body Oil Recipe

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup olive oil (deeply moisturizing, rich in vitamins A & E)
- 1/2 cup sweet almond oil (lightweight and easily absorbed by the skin)
- 1 TBSP vitamin E oil (natural preservative + added skin nourishment)
- 1/2 cup dried lilac flowers (fresh lilacs should be dried beforehand)
Optional: 10 drops Lilac Essential Oil. Herbal infused oils do not usually maintain much scent, compared to their essential oil counterparts. While I usually choose to opt out of essential oils, it’s up to you!
Supplies:
- Glass jar with a lid
- Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
- Pump bottle for storage (Darker colors are better, as they protect from light exposure, but I used these clear pump bottles I had on hand)
How to Make Lilac Body Oil
There are two simple methods to infuse the lilac into your oil:
Method 1: Slow Cold Infusion (the patient, no-rush method)
- Combine the lilac flowers and carrier oils in a glass jar.
- Seal the jar and store it in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks, shaking occasionally.
- After the infusion period, strain the oil and add the vitamin E oil.
- Transfer to a dark glass bottle and enjoy!

Method 2: Quick Heat Infusion (for when you need it ASAP)
- In a double boiler, gently heat the olive and almond oils.
- Add the dried lilac flowers and let the mixture warm on low heat for about 2 hours. (Be careful not to overheat, as high temperatures can degrade some beneficial properties.). Stir regularly.
- Strain the herbs using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
- Stir in the vitamin E oil.
- Pour the infused oil into a clean, dark glass bottle for storage.
